Superfast Broadband

Please see below for the latest on Superfast Broadband in Great Witley:

Some good news which I wanted to share with you.  I’m currently working with Worcestershire County Council on the Superfast Worcestershire Programme, which is delivering fibre broadband to homes and businesses in Worcestershire.  Just wanted you to be aware that another fibre cabinet, cab number 601,  has just gone live, enabling more residents in the area to get fast fibre broadband if they so wish (they will need to contact their Internet Service Provider to upgrade).  This brings the total number of cabinets deployed on Great Witley exchange to 4, with cabinet numbers 1, 2, 5 and 601 now live.  There is also further deployment planned with 2 more structures in scope to be upgrade to provide fibre broadband, these are cabinet numbers 3 and a Fibre to the premises structure V32. We do expect cabinet number 3 to go live by the end of December 2016.  This is great news for the parish and represents significant investment in the location

Dear Simon,

Many thanks for your query and as soon as I have received an answer from Superfast Broadband I will let you know what the below mean for parishioners.

VAS problems

13/10/2016

We are aware of the current problems with the new VAS which have been installed.  These issues are being dealt with and we hope they will be resolved shortly.  Please see WCC response to our query on this matter:

May I take this chance to explain a little about the VAS? This is the responsibility of the County Highways and the current mess will be sorted.

Bloors engaged an incompetent contractor, who put up VAS of the wrong type in the wrong places. I think we will sort it as follows:

All new VAS will just show the speed limit, 30mph, and flash to indicate the vehicle is exceeding that limit. That type was specified in the planning condition.

The one for westbound traffic will probably be sited on the north of the road, so the solar panels can see the sun and they will be alongside the sign, as with the school signs, so the panels are not vulnerable to wayward HGVs.

One of the ones for eastbound traffic will be sited roughly where the pair are now, probably on the south side of the road.

The third one, also for eastbound traffic, will be sited where the previous VASs have been sited, by the layby just beyond the Hundred House. This will then also pick up traffic going to Stourport.

That position will then not be used in rotation, as has been the case, and may well instead be sited along the A451 towards Stourport for westbound traffic.

If that is so, then the Safer Roads Partnership can do their enforcement outside the scout hut, as has been recommended by the parish. This assumes that they don't conclude that the three new VAS units makes their enforcement redundant...

I hope that clarifies the situation, and that these plans are accurate as indicated above. I must apologise for the delay in the installation of the VAS and then for it being done so incompetently
.
