VELO CYCLE EVENT
On September 24th, the Velo mass participation cycle ride will pass through the edge of Great Witley and as a result the Stourport and Worcester roads will be closed for a large part of the day. Your Parish Council along with others and many private individuals have protested about these closures because of the restrictions they impose on the opportunity to travel out of the area – indeed some people are unable to leave their homes for most of the day. We understand that CSM, the organisers, would like to make this cycle ride an annual event. The County Council say that they are not yet committed to allowing this to take place again and will consider the effects this year’s event has on local communities. Accordingly, our Parish Council will endeavour to collect evidence of inconvenience, disruption or loss brought about by this year’s event and pass it on to the County Council. The County Council are unlikely to be swayed by grumbles and complaints but may have to re-think if there is real evidence of disruption, inconvenience or loss.
